OUR ORIGINS
The founder, Ian Jacobson, grew up around Lake Michigan and was already a board-sports enthusiast (surfing, wakeboarding, etc). During a trip to Hawaii in 2009, he tried stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and realized: this was a sport that could work in Chicago, even on flat water. Shortly after returning, by June 2009, he launched his business on Glencoe Beach (and soon at North Avenue Beach) with only six boards.
WHY SUP IN CHICAGO?
Stand-up paddleboarding in Chicago offers a truly unique experience - where the calm waters of Lake Michigan meet the city's iconic skyline. Unlike ocean coasts, Chicago's lake provides long stretches of flat, clear water perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. Every paddle becomes a balance between nature and architecture, sunrise and skyscrapers, stillness and city energy.
